Myth of Calories In & Calories Out – It Doesn’t Work!

Many of us believe that if we reduce our caloric intake and workout (burning more calories than we eat), then we lose weight. So, let say you want to lose 1 lb in 1 week. You would simply cut your calories by 3500 that week and BAM, you lose a pound. But, that’s not what happened; you didn’t lose 1 pound, instead you may have gained weight. And you’ve done this 1,000,000 times, hoping that each time you will find success, but every time you just prove that this method is flawed.

This is especially true for women.  We are hormonally complex and because of this require a more comprehensive approach.  There are many things at play when it comes to weight loss, so a simple method of reducing your calories and increase your activity can actually create weight gain.  If you find that you’ve been cutting down how much you eat and working out like crazy and still are not reaching your goals, something is flawed with your method.  It’s time to change it so you can see results.

There are two sides to metabolism: anabolic (building up) and catabolic (breaking down). When these two systems are in balance, you are healthy. But if you aren’t getting enough sleep and you are stressed and eating poorly, you have more breaking down than building up and you will not lose weight. However, when you eat clean and have restful sleep, your body becomes a building machine.

So what is the secret to optimizing your metabolism?

1. Reduce Stress
2. Clean up your diet and reduce inflammation by removing food intolerance’s
3. SLEEP
4. Reduce sugar intake to 25 grams or less per day
5. Reduce toxicity by eating free range, grass fed, organic meats and veggies
6. Exercise

The best way to achieve health is to be patient with yourself.  Give yourself time to heal, like more than one week before you start freaking out about not seeing results.  Remind yourself that it took time for you to gain the weight and it will take more time to lose the weight and heal your system.  The slower the approach, the more likely you are to create solid habits and be able to maintain the weight loss for life.  The lose-weight-quickly-schemes do not foster changes within you and so you will gain the weight back and become miserable again soon enough.  Who wants to yo-yo??!!
